The former Arizona national monument received formal federal status on 20 October 2026.
The Chiricahua National Park Act was enacted as United States Public Law 119-133 on 20 October 2026, Congress.gov records show.
The designation makes Chiricahua the 64th national park in the United States. It is the fourth national park located in Arizona.
The site had previously operated as a national monument. That status was formally rescinded and replaced with national park standing on the same date the legislation became law.
