A gunfight occurred on the night of 2026-04-12 between an ex-police officer and four men in two motorcycles near Carrera 30 and Calle 98 in Bogotá. ^[1] A police officer in early retirement in Bogotá shot an attacker during an attempted robbery, wounding the suspect in the leg and preventing the theft of a large sum of foreign currency. ^[2] Four suspects approached the victim on two motorcycles and intimidated him with firearms to steal the money. ^[3] The victim returned fire and successfully hit one of the suspects, while the other three fled the scene. ^[4] The victim was an ex-police officer who had just withdrawn a large sum of dollars from an exchange house near Unicentro. ^[5] Lieutenant Colonel Ricardo Chávez Camargo, commander of Citizen Security No. 1, stated that police recovered all the stolen money and seized a 9-millimeter pistol from the suspect. ^[6] Police activated 'Plan Candado' in the Barrios Unidos sector to intercept the fleeing suspect, resulting in his capture. ^[7] Judicial records indicate the suspect has prior convictions for illegal possession of firearms and aggravated theft. ^[8]
