The state of Querétaro will host the XXXII National MICE Industry Congress (CNIR) from September 9 to 12, 2026. ^[1] DNA sequences from the COI gene of two R. costaricana specimens differed from those of other Rhinochimaera species by 3.9-4.7%, exceeding commonly accepted thresholds used to distinguish species. ^[2] Researchers formally described Rhinochimaera costaricana, a new species of deep-sea rhinochimaera (commonly called ghost sharks), based on three male specimens collected off the Pacific coast of Costa Rica between 2000 and 2023. ^[3] Alfredo Espinosa Leal, director general of the QCC and president of the Mexican Association of Exhibition Halls (Ameref), stated that the event is expected to generate an economic impact of 40 million pesos. ^[4] The MICE industry represents 1.8% of the national Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and generates nearly one million direct and indirect jobs. ^[5] The Querétaro Convention Center (QCC) will host approximately 800 attendees from the MICE sector. ^[6] The Costa Rican specimens exhibited a unique combination of morphological traits, including a shorter snout, a larger and taller spine in front of the first dorsal fin, a higher first dorsal fin, a wider gap between dorsal fins, and fewer tubercles on the tail, distinguishing them from other Rhinochimaera species. ^[7] The three specimens of Rhinochimaera costaricana measured 30.5-32.6 inches (775-830 mm) in total length. ^[8]
