The United Nations Development Programme (Pnud) estimates that the total cost of the August 10 earthquake in Colombia will exceed 30 trillion pesos, which is equivalent to 2.3% of the country's GDP. ^[1] The Bancolombia Foundation announced the launch of 'Hechos de Colombia', a new campaign to accompany the recovery of communities affected by the earthquake of August 10. ^[2] As of August 28, insurance companies in Colombia had received 66,370 claims related to the earthquake and paid out 42,992 million pesos, with estimated insured damages reaching 2.7 trillion pesos. ^[3] Bancolombia announced a new phase of aid called 'Hechos de Colombia', committing 30,000 million pesos of its own resources to support long-term recovery in rural areas affected by the earthquake. ^[4] Postobón announced a program called 'Unidos Somos Más Fuertes' with 30,000 million pesos to help 1,000 shop owners recover their businesses, provide school furniture for 24,000 students, and support 140 employees whose homes were damaged. ^[5] Alejandro Botero, Corporate Vice President of Bancolombia, stated that the entity's own resources will be oriented to strengthen the productive fabric of the affected areas. ^[6] Bancolombia will allocate $30 million of its own resources to strengthen the different rural territories affected by the emergency. ^[7] The new initiative marks the start of a second stage of attention focused on the reconstruction of the productive fabric and the recovery of economic activities in the impacted territories. ^[8]
