The RSPCA is investigating a spate of dog poisonings in Western Australia's Gascoyne region after five pets became unwell and three died. ^[1] Coral Coast Veterinary Hospital treated five pets from three different households that exhibited symptoms of organophosphate poisoning within a 48-hour period. ^[2] Stefan Louw, executive manager of the Shire of Carnarvon, stated that three of the poisoned dogs found on Morgan Way passed away. ^[3] The Shire of Carnarvon confirmed that five dogs were poisoned on two streets within the town of Carnarvon, located 900 kilometres north of Perth. ^[4] Birds & Blooms recommends offering strawberries, mangoes, oranges, and watermelon to attract butterflies, stating that some butterflies use their proboscis to sip fruit juice instead of relying solely on flower nectar. ^[5] The RSPCA stated that butterflies are crucial for biodiversity and that UK butterfly populations have declined by over 80% in the past 50 years. ^[6] The RSPCA advises creating butterfly feeders with sugary liquids and juicy fruits to provide an extra food source, noting that butterflies taste with receptors in their feet and drink through a proboscis. ^[7] Wild Yards advises placing oranges where they are visible, suggesting hanging them or cutting them into slices and laying them in a shallow dish of water to prevent ants. ^[8]
