Timothy Hawkins told Al-Monitor on Monday that the strikes were preemptive to stop IRGC forces that were preparing to launch rockets with sea mines into the Strait of Hormuz. ^[5] According to the sources, Israel is currently seeking to avoid a direct confrontation with Iran amid ongoing US strikes against the Islamic Republic. ^[6] In retaliation for the US strikes, Iranian forces struck US military targets in Jordan, Bahrain, and Iraq. ^[7] US Central Command reported a series of strikes against targets in Iran, including explosions along the country's southern coast, including on Qeshm Island and in several cities. ^[8]
