On Tuesday, a 16-year-old Class 11 student died after jumping from the third-floor terrace of Navodaya Vidya Niketan Senior Secondary School in Faridabad, India, according to Faridabad police. ^[1] Police public relations officer Yashpal Yadav said that the allegations are being verified and a case will be registered after the father submits a formal complaint, and that police are questioning school authorities and scanning CCTV footage. ^[2] School principal RK Sharma denied the allegation, stating that the girl had gone to the bathroom accompanied by a female non-teaching staff member, then went to the terrace and jumped suddenly, and the school does not know why she took such a step. ^[3] The girl's father alleged that a female teacher punished his daughter by making her stand in the sun for at least four hours because some students created a disturbance in class, and that this punishment led her to take the extreme step. ^[4] Emergency medical treatment is currently being administered at BK Hospital for the student. ^[5] According to the father, Janvi jumped from the third floor approximately 20 minutes before being granted permission to leave the school. ^[6] Pramod Kumar, the father of the deceased student, alleged that a teacher punished Janvi by making her stand outside the classroom for approximately four hours. ^[7] The father stated that the punishment began after a dispute over biryani food between Janvi and another student during lunch. ^[8]
