The Chamber of Deputies forwarded two legislative initiatives to the Constitutional Points Committee and the Environment and Natural Resources Committee on September 1, 2026. ^[1] Ricardo Monreal, coordinator of Morena in the Chamber of Deputies, stated on 2026-04-12 that the dual citizenship reform initiative should be limited to the Presidency of the Republic, the governorships, and the Head of Government of Mexico City. ^[2] President Claudia Sheinbaum sent the initiative regarding the reform of dual nationality laws to the Chamber of Deputies. ^[3] Ricardo Monreal argued on 2026-04-12 that the reform should be restricted to governors, the head of government, and the President of the Republic to prevent their interests from being linked to another nation. ^[4] Ricardo Monreal said on 2026-04-12 that the Constitutional Points Committee must define the scope of the proposal and that it is uncertain if the reform will be expanded to include municipal presidents. ^[5] Ricardo Monreal stated on 2026-04-12 that the strategy against criminal groups in Zacatecas has reduced intentional homicides and high-impact crimes by nearly 70 percent since five years ago. ^[6] The initiative on the General Law of Ecological Balance and Environmental Protection was forwarded to the Environment and Natural Resources Committee. ^[7]
