The United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) released a statement announcing that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrested 50,925 illegal aliens in August 2026. ^[1] The Trump administration has assigned hundreds of federal agents from the Department of Homeland Security to search for non-citizen voters in state voter rolls before the November elections. ^[2] Albert Oliveira, a Brazilian pastor at First Baptist Church in Gordon, Texas, returned to his role in April 2026 after leaving the United States in October 2025. ^[3] The arrest total of 50,925 illegal aliens in August 2026 surpassed the previous monthly record set in July 2026. ^[4] The Department of Homeland Security is conducting a meticulous review of state voter rolls looking for evidence of fraud. ^[5] The Trump administration has become obsessed with eradicating election fraud this year, claiming without evidence that tens of thousands of non-citizens are registered to vote. ^[6] Albert Oliveira stated in an interview with Baptist Press that he believes the immigration system needs reform to allow churches to hire passionate ministry workers without spending years on bureaucracy. ^[7] Oliveira voluntarily left the United States last October because his R-1 visa expired and regulations required R-1 visa holders to live outside the country for one year before reapplying. ^[8] The U.S. Department of Homeland Security removed the one-year outside-residency requirement for R-1 visa holders in January 2026, allowing Oliveira to return. ^[9] ICE conducted the arrests across the United States during the month of August 2026. ^[10] Election fraud is described as extremely rare, yet the administration is conducting an intense hunt despite the absence of evidence of widespread fraud. ^[11]
