The 24-hour Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) in Singapore exceeded 101 on the morning of Friday, September 4, entering the unhealthy range. ^[1] The National Environment Agency of Singapore (NEA) reported that the Pollution Standards Index (PSI) reached a poor level for the first time since October 8, 2023, due to haze. ^[2] Air quality is considered unhealthy when the PSI is in the range of 101 to 200, during which the National Environment Agency advises the public to cut down on outdoor activities. ^[3] At 10 am on Friday, September 4, the 24-hour PSI in the central part of Singapore was 105, according to the National Environment Agency (NEA) website. ^[4] Dense smoke haze was observed over southern and central Sumatra and various parts of Kalimantan on most days from around August 21, following weeks of forest and land fires in Indonesia fueled by a super El Niño weather phenomenon. ^[5] Agencies under the Haze Task Force activated action plans quickly in response to the poor PSI level. ^[6] The NEA issued recommendations to protect public health and community welfare. ^[7] Starting from the evening of September 4, the NEA will release daily advisory bulletins on haze conditions. ^[8]
