Sudaryono, the head of the Badan Gizi Nasional (BGN), stated on September 3, 2026, that more than 80% of food poisoning cases in the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program are caused by violations of standard operating procedures (SOP). ^[1] The National Nutrition Agency (BGN) submitted a 2027 Work Plan and Budget of Rp240.2 trillion to ensure the sustainability of the Free Nutritious Meals program. ^[2] In a specific case in Sidoarjo, an investigation found that food was delivered to schools at 11:00 and consumed at 12:00, violating the label's consumption deadline of 10:00. ^[3] Sudaryono declared that the BGN will now directly decide which schools are served by which kitchens based on production profiles and distribution distances, rather than leaving this decision to the local units. ^[4] Sudaryono explained that the primary cause of poisoning is a mismatch between kitchen production capacity and the volume of orders received, forcing staff to store food improperly and reheat it later. ^[5] BGN Head Sudaryono stated during a DPR RI hearing on September 3, 2026, that the final budget was reduced from an indicative cap of Rp270.2 trillion to Rp240.2 trillion. ^[6] BGN targets 72,464,886 beneficiaries in 2027, comprising 60,599,777 students and 11,865,109 mothers and toddlers. ^[7]
