The Akwa Ibom State Police Command warned political parties and support groups against organizing large public rallies, processions, campaigns, or meetings without permission. ^[1] Commissioner of Police CP Baba Mohammed Azare stated that obtaining permission is important to guard against political thugs, troublemakers, and persons planning to exploit gatherings to cause violence. ^[2] In a press statement signed on Monday in Uyo, the Commissioner explained that the permission requirement aims to avert clashes in time, venue, and activities between political parties. ^[3] The Police Command requires organizers to formally notify them well ahead of activities to enable adequate security arrangements, traffic management, and protection of participants and the public. ^[4] The Police Command requires organizers to communicate sufficiently in advance, clearly stating the date, time, venue, expected number of participants, and proposed routes. ^[5] Akwa Ibom State Commissioner of Police Baba Mohamed Azare said the measure was not intended to obstruct lawful political activities but to ensure that the rights of one party or group do not interfere with the rights, safety, and activities of others. ^[6] The Akwa Ibom State Police Command said the notification directive aims to prevent clashes between parties or groups whose events may be inadvertently scheduled for the same venue, route, date, or time. ^[7] The Akwa Ibom State Police Command warned political parties and their supporters against violence and thuggery ahead of political activities in the state. ^[8]
