Payments from the $444.5 million victim fund established under Boeing's 2025 non-prosecution agreement with the U.S. Justice Department are set to begin for beneficiaries of the 346 people killed in the Lion Air Flight 610 and Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302 accidents. ^[1] Chicago-based law firm Ribbeck Law Chartered, which represents 93 clients connected to the two accidents, announced the start of payments on Tuesday. ^[2] The $444.5 million fund is separate from a $500 million compensation program established through Boeing's 2021 deferred prosecution agreement, bringing the two Justice Department victim funds to a combined $944.5 million. ^[3] Under Boeing's 2025 non-prosecution agreement, the estate of each person killed is entitled to an equal share of the $444.5 million fund. ^[4] The $87.3 million payment is part of a $444.5 million fund established under Boeing's 2025 non-prosecution agreement with the US Department of Justice. ^[5] The total compensation amount for the Kenyan families is $87,343,352.60. ^[6] The US Department of Justice stated that the Maneuvering Characteristics Augmentation System (MCAS) activated during both the Lion Air and Ethiopian Airlines flights and may have played a role in the crashes. ^[7]
