Military forces in Michoacán, Mexico, killed a fugitive valued at $3 million during an operation on September 1, 2026. ^[1] Colombia recorded 204 attacks involving explosives so far in 2026, with a rise in such attacks over the past month. ^[2] The law enabling the complementary support of the Armed Forces to the National Police is now in effect in Ecuador. ^[3] The fugitive was identified as a high-value target worth $3 million to authorities. ^[4] A car bomb exploded in front of the Police station in Los Patios, in the metropolitan area of Cúcuta, Norte de Santander department on a Monday, leaving one civilian dead and 11 people injured, including two police officers. ^[5] Between August 7 and 30, the Military Forces reported 782 actions against armed groups and criminal networks, including 702 arrests, 35 surrenders and 33 combatants killed in military operations. ^[6] The National Liberation Army (ELN) accounts for at least 75 of the 204 attacks recorded so far this year. ^[7] The new law, titled the Organic Law Regulating the Complementary and Subsidiary Support of the Armed Forces to the National Police, establishes that military interventions will have a complementary and subsidiary character. ^[8] The President of the Republic will issue the Executive Decree that determines the geographical limits and conditions of the support. ^[9] The process requires the General Commander of the National Police to send a motivated request to the Presidency of the Republic, followed by a technical-military report from the Joint Command of the Armed Forces and a motivated recommendation from the Public Security and State Council (COSEPE). ^[10]
