Ortiz was forced to eat a habanero chili pepper to which he is allergic, causing him to lose consciousness and convulse before being transported to the hospital. ^[1] The General Prosecutor's Office of the State of Tamaulipas confirmed the initiation of an investigation into injuries sustained by a student at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Zootechnology, Ciudad Victoria campus. ^[2] On September 2, 2026, construction work for the Morebús transit system in the Tres Puentes area of Avenida Madero, Morelia, was found to be stalled with machinery unmoved. ^[3] Tadeo Ortiz, an 18-year-old first-year student in the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Zootechnics at the Universidad Autónoma de Tamaulipas (UAT) in Ciudad Victoria, was hospitalized after allegedly being forced to consume a habanero pepper during a hazing ritual. ^[4] Tadeo Ortiz is currently in the recovery room of the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) under medical observation. ^[5] The group threw blood, semen, and other liquids presumed to come from animals treated at the campus at Ortiz and his peers. ^[6] After meetings between neighbors and authorities, work was temporarily halted and a commitment was made to relocate trees rather than cut them in the Tres Puentes site. ^[7] Citizens and activists protested the project from late August 2026, resulting in legal injunctions to protect trees in the area from being cut down during transit adjustments. ^[8] María Elena Huerta, head of the Secretaría de Desarrollo Urbano y Movilidad (Sedum), stated on August 27, 2026, that a heavy drilling machine weighing approximately 60 tons posed an imminent risk and could be removed from the danger zone. ^[9] According to Ortiz's family, he had previously warned the senior students of his severe allergy to the pepper, but they allegedly forced him to eat it anyway. ^[10] Following the ingestion of the pepper, Ortiz suffered convulsions and required medical attention, eventually being admitted to the intensive care unit at a hospital in Ciudad Victoria. ^[11] The Fiscalía General de Justicia de Tamaulipas has initiated an investigation into the case, citing the probable crime of intentional injury (lesiones dolosas). ^[12]
