Dr. Ashish Gautam, principal director of robotic and laparoscopic surgery at Max Super Speciality Hospital in Patparganj, New Delhi, stated that metabolic health depends on how the body uses energy, regulates blood sugar, processes fats, and responds to hormones. ^[1] Dr. Gautam explained that a person can have a stable weight and still develop insulin resistance, abnormal cholesterol, fatty liver, or other metabolic problems. ^[2] Dr. Gautam highlighted that blood sugar does not usually become abnormal overnight and that insulin resistance develops gradually, requiring regular screening via fasting glucose and HbA1c tests. ^[3] Dr. Gautam stated that approximately 35 crore Indians above the age of 20 have abdominal obesity, according to an ICMR study published in The Lancet Diabetes and Endocrinology in 2023. ^[4] Dr. Bharati Kulkarni, director of the ICMR-National Institute of Nutrition, said that the institute is researching the nutritional value of traditional millets mandua, jhangora and amaranth from Uttarakhand, on the direction of the Central Agriculture Ministry. ^[5] The National Institute of Nutrition recently conducted the 'Sampada survey', visiting more than 200,000 locations and 81,000 households to study dietary habits and lifestyle. ^[6] A delegation of journalists from Uttarakhand, led by PIB Dehradun assistant director Sanjeev Sundriyal, visited the ICMR-National Institute of Nutrition to meet director Dr. Bharati Kulkarni. ^[7] Dr. Bharati Kulkarni said that if a woman's nutrition is good before conception, she will give birth to a healthy child. ^[8]
