A Winnipeg woman is being hailed as a hero after saving a father and his child from the Red River last month. ^[1] Jayclyn Morrissette, a 32-year-old woman from Winnipeg, rescued a child and her father from drowning in the Red River on August 24 near St. John's Park. ^[2] Police officers were called to St. John's Park shortly before 7 p.m. on Aug. 24, 2026, after receiving a report that a child had fallen into the Red River. ^[3] The woman jumped into the river, pulled the father to safety, and then swam back out for the child. ^[4] When officers arrived, they found the unconscious child on shore receiving first aid from a bystander. ^[5] Morrissette jumped into the Red River, grabbed the panicking father, and was helped by her neighbour who held on to him until he was out of the water. ^[6] Morrissette saw the child's father jump into the water and realized within 10 seconds that he was sinking while trying to save his daughter. ^[7]
