The Colombian Geological Service (SGC) detected an increase in seismic activity in the area of Purace Volcano in the Cauca department. ^[1] The SGC elevated the alert level for Purace Volcano to orange after detecting a sustained increase in gas emissions, seismic activity, and ash expulsion. ^[2] The Servicio Geológico Colombiano (SGC) maintained the Orange Alert status for Purace Volcano in the Cauca department due to increased seismic energy recorded since late July. ^[3] Cristian Santacoloma, coordinator of the Popayán Volcanological Observatory, stated that there are not enough elements to determine that an eruption will occur imminently. ^[4] The SGC detected signals associated with fluid dynamics inside volcanic conduits and measurements related to the presence of gases and possible changes in terrain deformation. ^[5] Seismic signals associated with fluid dynamics in volcanic conduits, specifically tremor (TR), continued to be located under the crater of Purace Volcano at depths less than 1 km. ^[6] The SGC reported an increase in sismicity associated with rock fracturing (volcano-tectonic, VT), recording around 150 events located between 10 and 15 km northeast of Purace Volcano at depths between 8 and 12 km. ^[7]
