Preliminary ship-tracking data from Kpler showed that around five vessels transited the Strait of Hormuz on August 31, 2020, compared with a 10-day average of about 14. ^[1] Kpler, a maritime tracking company, released preliminary data on Tuesday stating that only four commercial ships passed through the Strait of Hormuz. ^[2] Turkish customs data showed that the United States supplied about 570,000 tonnes of crude oil to Turkey in June 2025, compared with 425,000 tonnes from Russia, making the US Turkey's main crude oil supplier that month. ^[3] Iranian media reports said that a Saudi oil tanker was stopped on September 1, 2020, while transiting the southern corridor of the Strait of Hormuz. ^[4] The average number of ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz over the previous ten days was approximately 13. ^[5] The reduction in ship movement through the waterway occurred after the latest escalation in conflict between the United States and Iran. ^[6] Kpler data showed that no liquid tankers were among the Strait of Hormuz transits on August 31, 2020; of the four entering vessels, one was an empty handy-sized gas tanker that reached the strait via the Iranian route, and the other three were laden dry bulk carriers. ^[7] The four ships that passed through included one large crude oil tanker, one Panamax tanker, one Kamsarmax ship, and one medium-sized tanker. ^[8]
