Two residents of Acre's Old City in their 20s were arrested on suspicion of attacking a man whose daughter was killed at the Nova music festival on October 7, 2023. ^[1] The New Zealand pharmaceutical authority Medsafe approved the prescription of MDMA for the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). ^[2] Police opened an investigation, identified the suspects, and raided their homes, leading to their arrest. ^[3] The attack occurred when the victim was walking his dog, and a fight broke out between the victim's dog and the suspects' dog. ^[4] The suspects allegedly 'violently' attacked the man after claiming their dog was intentionally attacked. ^[5] Deputy Prime Minister David Seymour stated that PTSD destroys lives and is difficult to treat, justifying the decision to allow MDMA use. ^[6] Patients receiving the approved MDMA therapy are not allowed to take the substance home; it must be used in a controlled clinical setting under the supervision of authorized psychiatrists. ^[7] The approved MDMA therapy must be administered in combination with psychotherapy and is only available to patients aged 18 and older. ^[8]
