The municipality of Facatativá is in an orange alert due to a critical water supply situation where surface reserves are expected to last only 15 to 20 days. ^[1] Mayor Luis Carlos Casas stated that the Mancilla reservoir, which historically held up to 300,000 cubic meters of water, now contains less than 20,000 cubic meters. ^[2] The municipality of Facatativá, located approximately 50 kilometers from Bogotá, Colombia, is currently facing a severe water emergency affecting its population of roughly 180,000 people. ^[3] Another reservoir with a capacity of 40,000 cubic meters currently has only about 10,000 cubic meters available. ^[4] Mayor Luis Carlos Casas of Facatativá urged residents to reduce water consumption to the maximum while contingency measures are advanced. ^[5] The Mancilla reservoir, which provides nearly 30% of Facatativá's water, is currently at minimum levels. ^[6] Mayor Luis Carlos Casas warned that if it does not rain within 15 days, the city will run out of water and be forced to declare a red alert. ^[7] The administration has opened five deep wells to increase water supply, some of which have been under construction since the previous year. ^[8]
