A two-day international conference on voter registration is being held in Ranchi. ^[1] The Supreme Court of India sought the view of the Election Commission of India on the introduction of totalisers for counting votes in Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). ^[2] The Election Commission of India released the draft voter list for Delhi on Monday, August 31, 2026, as part of the process to update the voter rolls. ^[3] Approximately 57 research papers will be discussed at the conference. ^[4] Arvind Anand, Principal Secretary of the Election Commission of India, will be present at the event. ^[5] The conference is organized by the Chief Electoral Officer's office of Jharkhand in collaboration with the Central University of Jharkhand. ^[6] A totaliser is a device that allows votes cast in approximately 14 polling booths to be counted together. ^[7] Residents can check their names in the draft voter list by visiting the website of the Chief Electoral Officer of Delhi. ^[8] The scrutiny process for the Special Intensive Review (SIR) of voter lists has been ongoing for nearly two months across all 13 districts of Delhi. ^[9] The request for the Election Commission's view was made in the context of a legal challenge regarding the EVM voting system. ^[10] The Supreme Court is reviewing the feasibility and legal implications of aggregating votes from multiple booths using a totaliser device. ^[11] Citizens whose names are not found in the draft list or who did not receive an enumeration form during the door-to-door process are advised not to panic. ^[12]
