Juan Garrigó Mejía formally resigned from his position as Vice Minister of Social Management and Community to dedicate himself fully to the responsibilities of General Secretary of the Party of the Revolutionary Modernization (PRM). ^[1] Juan Garrigó Mejía stated that he made the decision with a sense of responsibility and institutional coherence, aware that the General Secretary role requires delivery, territorial presence, and a permanent work agenda alongside the party leadership and membership. ^[2] Juan Garrigó Mejía stated that he will concentrate his efforts on listening to the membership, organizing and strengthening party structures, opening opportunities for participation, and modernizing the political functioning of the PRM through new tools and communication mechanisms. ^[3] Juan Garrigó Mejía thanked President Luis Abinader for the trust deposited in him and the opportunity to serve the country from the Government, claiming this experience strengthened his vocation of service and his commitment to a politics close to the people. ^[4] Garrigó explained that the General Secretariat requires permanent presence in territories and direct contact with the party membership. ^[5] The new PRM leadership was selected through a consensus slate headed by President Luis Abinader, with Deligne Ascención as first vice president, Garrigó as general secretary, and Gloria Reyes as secretary of Organization. ^[6] The PRM has begun preparing rules for a competition for the presidential candidacy, with primaries scheduled for October 2027 to face the 2028 elections. ^[7]
