Democratic Party top committee members Choi Min-hee and Park Seon-won expressed conflicting views on whether Yon Hye-in, a candidate for Minister of Equality and Family, should retain her seat as a proportional representative lawmaker. ^[1] Yong Hye-in, a lawmaker from the Basic Income Party nominated for the position of Minister of Equality and Family, arrived at the hearing preparation office on the morning of the second of the month. ^[2] South Korea's National Assembly is composed of 254 regional representatives and 46 proportional representatives. ^[3] Democratic Party Committee member Park Seon-won argued on 2026-06-01 that Yon Hye-in should resign her proportional representative seat if appointed as Minister of Equality and Family. ^[4] Park Seon-won stated that Yon Hye-in already has a registered order of succession with the National Election Commission, making resignation necessary. ^[5] The hearing preparation office was established at the Korea Youth Activity Promotion Center in Seodaemun-gu, Seoul. ^[6] Yong Hye-in stated that she understands the hearing is not just a space for speaking alone but a space to communicate with the people, and she will prepare well to organize and convey her thoughts. ^[7] A quasi-linkage system was introduced for proportional representation starting from the 21st general election in 2020 to promote the entry of minority parties into the National Assembly. ^[8] The Democratic Party of Korea and the People Power Party have used satellite parties to secure proportional representation seats in the last two general elections. ^[9] Yong Hye-in, a candidate for Minister of Equality and Family, was elected as a proportional representative through the Democratic Party's satellite parties, the Citizens Party and the Democratic Union. ^[10] Yong Hye-in acknowledged that there are many worries and concerns regarding her nomination. ^[11]
