The full bench of the Peruvian Constitutional Court elected Pedro Hernández as the new president of the institution by majority vote. ^[1] Luz Pacheco Zerga resigned from the presidency on May 27 after a majority of her colleagues maintained their confidence in a high-ranking official that she had requested be removed. ^[2] The seven justices of the Constitutional Court appointed Luz Pacheco as vice-president and Francisco Morales Saravia to head the Center for Constitutional Studies during the same meeting. ^[3] Magistrate Gustavo Gutiérrez Ticse stated that Pedro Hernández obtained the election result specifically through the vote of Magistrate Manuel Monteagudo. ^[4] Magistrate Luz Pacheco Zerga was elected vice president, and Magistrate Francisco Morales Saravia assumed the role of director general of the Center for Constitutional Studies. ^[5] Pedro Hernández will lead the court until May 2027, which is the expiration date of the current five-year term of the collegial body. ^[6] Gutiérrez Ticse noted that Magistrate Manuel Monteagudo permanently questions the performance of all members of the Constitutional Court. ^[7]
