Croatia's government is expected to approve the purchase of 18 South Korean K239 Chunmoo multiple rocket launchers for €435.2 million ($506 million), excluding tax, at a cabinet session on Friday, according to Croatian newspaper Jutarnji List. ^[1] Croatia plans to purchase 18 South Korean K239 Chunmoo self-propelled multi-barrel rocket systems from Hanwha Aerospace for a value of €435.2 million excluding VAT. ^[2] Croatian Defense Minister Ivan Anušić is expected to sign the deal with South Korean manufacturer Hanwha Aerospace, along with a separate contract with Polish company WB Group to install a command-and-control system in the launcher vehicles. ^[3] The Chunmoo system includes rockets ranging from 30 to over 300 kilometers and is intended to replace Croatia's aging Soviet-era Grad and Vulkan launchers by 2028. ^[4] The deal would be Croatia's largest weapons purchase since its 1990s war for independence, apart from its earlier order of Rafale fighter jets, according to the newspaper. ^[5] Approximately 85 percent of the ordered equipment is scheduled for delivery by 2028. ^[6] Croatia agreed to purchase eight US HIMARS systems at the end of 2024, but the US halted the delivery of munitions with a range of approximately 300 kilometers due to its own military needs. ^[7]
