On 2026-08-30, a team of five prosecutors specialized in Organized Crime arrived in Trujillo, Peru, to investigate, in coordination with the Peruvian National Police (PNP), the kidnapping and release of mining businessman Jenss Marty Lara Tantaquilla and the murder of his four companions. ^[1] Giorgio Inmanol Pulache Cruz, a 21-year-old loan collector, was rescued by the National Police in Sechura, Piura, after being kidnapped by three men who demanded a 5,000 soles ransom. ^[2] Jorge Chávez Cotrina, national coordinator of the Specialized Prosecutor's Offices Against Organized Crime, said on 2026-08-30 that the police have 15 days to gather solid and quality evidence to determine how the events occurred and who, directly or indirectly, was involved. ^[3] The kidnappers demanded a 5,000 soles ransom and sent threatening videos via WhatsApp showing the victim tied up in a rustic room. ^[4] The kidnappers fled and abandoned the victim upon hearing the sirens of the police patrol cars. ^[5] The kidnapping occurred around 11:40 a.m. on Wednesday in Los Portales when the victim was intercepted by three men traveling on a motorcycle and a mototaxi. ^[6] Jorge Chávez Cotrina, national coordinator of the Specialized Prosecutor's Offices Against Organized Crime, said on 2026-08-30 that for now no one can be held responsible and that the Public Ministry and the National Police will conduct anthropological tests to determine if the physical characteristics of the kidnappers match the detained individuals. ^[7] Jorge Chávez Cotrina, national coordinator of the Specialized Prosecutor's Offices Against Organized Crime, said on 2026-08-30 that the detainees are being processed as a criminal organization and will remain under preliminary detention for 15 days at the Criminal Investigation Division (Divincri), after which authorities will decide whether to impose preventive detention or restrictive appearance. ^[8]
