Zayira Jordán Conde, president of the University of Puerto Rico, reiterated in a written statement that the university administration is willing to meet 'immediately' with the Workers Union to address the dispute over the medical plan, while defending the institution's established process for selecting coverage. ^[1] David Muñoz, president of the Workers Union, said on Thursday night on the program 'Jugando Pelota Dura' that workers would continue the strike until the meeting scheduled for September 18. ^[2] The strike began the previous Tuesday in 10 of the 11 campuses of the University of Puerto Rico system after no agreement was reached with the Central Administration over medical coverage. ^[3] The UPR Board of Governors determined that employees represented by the union remain temporarily under MCS coverage while the required request for proposals process is completed to select the medical plan. ^[4] The University of Puerto Rico presidency referred to the Office of the Comptroller of Puerto Rico several facts and findings related to possible noncompliance in previous contracting and disbursement processes linked to the medical coverage of employees represented by the Workers' Union. ^[5] Zayira Jordán Conde said the university has shown openness to dialogue, including meetings at the Department of Labor and Human Resources where alternatives were presented but not accepted by the Workers' Union. ^[6]
