Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State appealed to President Bola Tinubu and the Nigerian Army to site the headquarters of the newly created 83 Division in the state. ^[1] Samuel Erale, the newly appointed Commissioner of Police for Delta State, announced human law intelligence-driven policing strategy in a press briefing in Asaba, targeting kidnapping, cultism, armed robbery, cybercrime and other emerging security threats. ^[2] Governor Oborevwori appealed to the committee to recommend Delta as the headquarters location to the Chief of Army Staff and the President, adding that the state is prepared to support the formation's establishment. ^[3] Governor Oborevwori stated that Delta is strategically positioned to host the division's headquarters because of its central location among Delta, Edo, and Bayelsa, as well as its concentration of critical national oil and gas assets. ^[4] The new 83rd Division would be responsible for Delta, Edo, and Bayelsa, and the state would retain the 63 Brigade headquarters in Asaba, three battalions in Warri, the 90 Amphibious Battalion, and the 181 Battalion. ^[5] Samuel Erale said he would enforce strict compliance with police regulations, ethics and public service rules, while promoting professionalism, respect for human rights, and zero tolerance for corruption, extortion and other misconduct. ^[6] Samuel Erale said his administration would be built on six key areas: discipline, community policing, improved operational synergy with sister agencies, aggressive crime-fighting, restoration of public confidence, and a full review of the command's crime-fighting methods. ^[7] Samuel Erale stated at the same briefing that the safety of lives and property would remain the top priority of the Delta State Police Command, and that police would employ every lawful means to help residents and visitors feel safe at home and work. ^[8]
