The Jeonbuk Wildlife Rescue Center released five orphaned bush warblers back into nature on April 4 near Mireuksaji Temple in Iksan. ^[1] The University of Maryland's Central Maryland Research and Education Center (CMREC) in Clarksville, Maryland, hosted a hands-on conservation workshop focused on supporting declining American kestrel and barn owl populations, in partnership with the Maryland Farmland Raptor Program and the Howard County Bird Club. ^[2] The center released two barn owls at Wibongsanseong Fortress in Wanju County, including one trapped in a field net and one that lost its mother. ^[3] The five released bush warblers were rescued from Gimje, Imseol, Iksan, Suncheon, and Gochang and were all chicks that had lost their mothers. ^[4] A barn owl family can consume approximately 3,000 to 4,000 rodents in a single year, with meadow voles making up much of their diet. ^[5] Small-Lorenz said that widespread use of rodenticides could poison not only rodents but also the predators that feed on them, because of the wider ecosystem relationships. ^[6] The barn owl is designated as Natural Monument No. 324-2 and is a protected species listed as Endangered Wild Life Class II. ^[7]
