King Haakon VIII swore allegiance to Norway's Constitution before the Storting on Tuesday, September 1, four days after his father, King Harald V, died. ^[1] King Harald V died on August 28 at age 89, ending a reign of more than 35 years. ^[2] In the ACASA-TAVI trial, NOAC monotherapy reduced the occurrence of hypo-attenuated leaflet thickening, a measure of subclinical leaflet thrombosis seen on cardiac computed tomography at 12 months, by 45% compared with aspirin monotherapy (17.2% vs 32.6%; risk ratio 0.55; 95% CI 0.37-0.82; p=0.004). ^[3] Doctors diagnosed Crown Princess Mette-Marit with pulmonary fibrosis in 2018, leading to a lung transplant at Oslo University Hospital Rikshospitalet on June 17. ^[4] Queen Mette-Marit remained at home recovering from a lung transplant and complications following the procedure. ^[5] During the ACASA-TAVI study, two patients assigned to NOACs and 10 patients assigned to aspirin died; overall bleeding events were low but numerically higher in the aspirin group, and life-threatening or lethal bleeding occurred only in the aspirin group. ^[6] The ACASA-TAVI trial demonstrated noninferiority for the primary safety endpoint, a composite of Valve Academic Research Consortium-3 bleeding events, thromboembolic events, and all-cause death at 12 months, with an occurrence of 7.5% in the NOAC group versus 10.6% in the aspirin group (risk difference −3.3; 95% CI −9.5% to 2.8%; p for noninferiority <0.001). ^[7] The ACASA-TAVI trial, an investigator-initiated study across three hospitals in Norway, randomized 360 consecutive patients aged 65-80 years who had undergone successful transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) to 12 months of a NOAC (apixaban, edoxaban, or rivaroxaban) or aspirin (or clopidogrel if intolerant or used before). ^[8]
