Cartagena Mayor Dumek Turbay announced on an unspecified date that the first 2 kilometers of the Gran Malecón del Mar will be opened to the public on October 15. ^[1] The District plans to complete the full 6-kilometer project by June 2027. ^[2] The first stage of the Gran Malecón del Mar covers the corridor between La Boquilla and the access to the Túnel de Crespo. ^[3] The project includes the revitalization of Playa Azul in La Boquilla, which will feature pedestrian paths, parking areas, gastronomic spaces, and a Tourist Attention Center. ^[4] Dumek Turbay, mayor of Cartagena, said the opening gives citizens a space conceived to recover and protect the coastline and to serve as a meeting zone for sport, culture, recreation, and social integration. ^[5] Turbay announced the full six kilometers of the Gran Malecón del Mar will be delivered in June 2027, forming a corridor that connects various city sectors and changes Cartagena's relationship with its waterfront. ^[6]
