Senamhi forecast that daytime temperatures on the Peruvian coast would reach extreme intensity levels of up to 36°C in some sectors. ^[1] The Servicio Nacional de Meteorología e Hidrología (Senamhi) activated a red alert for extreme heat affecting 26 regions in Peru from September 1 to September 3. ^[2] The Servicio Nacional de Meteorología e Hidrología del Perú (SENAMHI) is the official institution in Peru responsible for monitoring, studying, and issuing weather forecasts. ^[3] The National Meteorological Service (SNM) in San Juan issued a heat warning for 72 municipalities in Puerto Rico. ^[4] Senamhi warned that the northern and central jungle regions would experience an increase in daytime temperatures of moderate to strong intensity until September 2, with highs between 31°C and 38°C. ^[5] The alert covers 26 regions including Amazonas, Áncash, Apurímac, Arequipa, Ayacucho, Cajamarca, Cusco, Huancavelica, Huánuco, Ica, Junín, La Libertad, Lambayeque, Lima, Moquegua, Pasco, Piura, Puno, Tacna, and Tumbes. ^[6] In Lima, the current temperature is 20°C with cloudy skies, a maximum of 22°C, a minimum of 21°C, and 84% humidity. ^[7] On September 1, 2026, the SENAMHI released an updated weather forecast for Lima and other major cities in Peru. ^[8] The heat warning was issued due to high temperatures and elevated humidity levels expected on Wednesday. ^[9]
