The Unidad de Búsqueda de Personas Dadas por Desaparecidas (UBPD) announced the recovery of four bodies during the first phase of an intervention at the El Zulia municipal cemetery in Norte de Santander. ^[1] Manuel Criales, coordinator of the Santander territorial team of the Search Unit, explained that six individuals have already been identified from the remains recovered at the airport. ^[2] María Díaz Hernández, vice president of the collective Guardianes de la Memoria, stated that human remains were recovered in May 1996 by the Fiscalía during heavy rains and consisted of between 500 and 600 bone structures. ^[3] On August 31, relatives of forced disappearances and victim organizations held a caravan to the Palonegro Airport mirador in Lebrija to honor those still missing. ^[4] The family of Jairo Antonio Acuña Acuña has submitted samples for DNA testing to determine if any of the remains correspond to the man who disappeared when he was 27 years old. ^[5] After intervening in 18 initially identified sites, the UBPD located nine new points of interest, expanding the areas requiring forensic analysis. ^[6] The second phase of the search is scheduled to begin on September 1, 2026, and will extend until September 12, 2026. ^[7]
