Stephanie Lose, deputy leader of the Danish Liberal Party Venstre, confirmed on Monday at a joint meeting of Landbrug & Fødevarer in Odense that the party leadership will vote for the nitrogen law. ^[1] Four members of Venstre's parliamentary group, Søren Gade, Amanda Heitmann, Preben Bang Henriksen, and Anni Mathiesen, announced they will defy the party line and vote against the law. ^[2] Stephanie Lose stated that Venstre would rather influence agricultural policy from within than stand without influence, arguing that without the party in the room, Danish food production would have been a catastrophe. ^[3] The nitrogen regulation law is scheduled to be voted on in the Danish Folketing on Thursday to reduce nitrogen emissions to marine environments. ^[4] Five of the 18 members of Venstre's parliamentary group announced they will vote against the party line on a law to reduce nitrogen emissions from agriculture, which is scheduled for a vote. ^[5] Joachim B. Olsen, political commentator for B.T., said that Poulsen does not have control and that there is a deep rift in the parliamentary group and the party base. ^[6] Troels Lund Poulsen, chairman of the Danish Liberal Party (Venstre), stated that he maintains a good grip on the party despite disagreements over the fertilizer law and that he will not sanction the five members planning to vote against the party line. ^[7] Long-time Venstre MPs Preben Bang Henriksen and Anni Mathiesen will vote against the contested fertilizer law. ^[8]
