Two Category 4 hurricanes named Lowell and Karina, along with Tropical Storm Marie, are traversing the Pacific Ocean on Wednesday. ^[1] The National Hurricane Center of the United States reported a rare succession of three hurricanes in the Pacific Ocean. ^[2] An unusual trio of hurricanes is currently traversing the Pacific Ocean due to historically intense warming of the waters. ^[3] The National Hurricane Center of the United States reported that Hurricane Lowell reached Category 5, Hurricane Karina reached Category 4, and Tropical Storm Marie intensified into a hurricane. ^[4] Tropical Storm Edouard made landfall near the Louisiana and Texas state line on Tuesday at approximately 3:20 pm EDT as a moderately strong tropical storm with maximum sustained winds near 60 mph. ^[5] The National Hurricane Center (NHC) expects hurricanes Lowell and Karina to pass far from the coast of Hawaii, although their trajectories remain uncertain. ^[6] The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) states there is a 69% probability that this year's El Niño will become the most intense ever recorded. ^[7] Tropical Storm Marie is currently located a few hundred kilometers from the Mexican coast and is expected to become a hurricane later on Wednesday. ^[8] Karina is currently at Level 4 intensity. ^[9] Hurricanes Karina and Lowell, both of category 4, are advancing westward in the Pacific Ocean. ^[10] Julia Cole, a climatologist at the University of Michigan, stated to AFP that having three active hurricanes at the same time is definitively rare to observe. ^[11] The National Hurricane Center declared that surges generated by Hurricane Lowell are propagating northward and will affect some parts of the Hawaiian Islands in the coming days. ^[12]
