Romanian prosecutors indicted social media influencer Andrew Tate on Friday on charges of trafficking minors, sex with a minor, and money laundering. ^[1] Romanian prosecutors formally charged Andrew and Tristan Tate with sex trafficking, sexual abuse of a minor, money laundering, and witness tampering on September 4, 2026. ^[2] The investigation by the Romanian Directorate for Investigating Organized Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT) alleges that Andrew Tate recruited a 15-year-old girl in 2012 and exploited her sexually for nine years in the UK and Romania. ^[3] Andrew and Tristan Tate, holding US and British nationalities respectively, were accused by Romanian justice authorities of rape, grievous bodily harm, human trafficking, and profit-driven prostitution control involving three other individuals. ^[4] DIICOT alleges that between December 2023 and July 2024, the Tates tried to hide or disguise the illicit origin of the money by purchasing four luxury cars worth about 825,000 euros ($957,000). ^[5] DIICOT alleges that in 2012 the brothers recruited a 15-year-old girl in Luton, England, and obtained more than $1.2 million from her webcam activity after she was repeatedly transported to Romania. ^[6] Andrew and Tristan Tate deny all accusations against them and are currently detained in a Miami jail awaiting extradition to the United Kingdom. ^[7] The victim was allegedly forced to produce pornographic material and appear in video calls, with Tristan Tate accused of supervising the activity and managing the funds. ^[8] Both Andrew and Tristan Tate have rejected all accusations made against them. ^[9] Andrew Tate is accused of moving the victim to Romania to carry on exploiting her in two of his homes. ^[10] DIICOT investigators allege that Andrew Tate recruited a vulnerable woman when she was 15 for sexual exploitation. ^[11] The brothers, former kickboxers with dual US and British citizenship, have been under criminal investigation in Romania since December 2022. ^[12]
