Colombia's Third Delegate Prosecutor's Office before the Supreme Court of Justice scheduled a hearing to gather evidence ahead of former President Álvaro Uribe Vélez's indictment (indagatoria) in his criminal case. ^[1] The Colombian Attorney General's Office confirmed that former paramilitary leader Salvatore Mancuso will be interviewed in Montería to assist in an investigation against former President Álvaro Uribe. ^[2] The purpose of the interview is to clarify details about the 1996 La Granja massacre and the 1997 El Aro massacre, as well as the 1998 assassination of human rights defender Jesús María Valle. ^[3] The Colombian Energy Regulatory Commission (CREG) implemented a six-month transitional energy savings scheme starting September 1, 2026, to address the effects of El Niño. ^[4] The Colombian Attorney General's Office determined that the judicial interrogation of former president Álvaro Uribe will take place on Friday, September 4, as originally scheduled. ^[5] The 1997 El Aro massacre resulted in the deaths of 15 people, the burning of 42 homes, the theft of 1,200 head of cattle, and the displacement of approximately 1,400 people. ^[6] The inquiry aims to structure nearly 600 questions that Uribe must answer during his scheduled judicial interrogation on September 4. ^[7] The energy savings program establishes individual consumption targets for households and small businesses based on their usage history from the last twelve months. ^[8] Users who exceed their consumption targets by more than 10% will face additional charges of 30% for strata 1-3, 50% for strata 4-6, and 70% for small businesses. ^[9] Jaime Granados, the lawyer for Álvaro Uribe, requested a postponement of the interrogation citing a pending conflict of jurisdiction currently being reviewed by the Constitutional Court. ^[10] Salvatore Mancuso has previously stated that information and collaboration from the Antioquia Governor's Office existed during the La Granja and El Aro massacres while Álvaro Uribe Vélez was serving as governor. ^[11] The defense also argued that the interrogation should be delayed because certain evidence, including the testimony of Salvatore Mancuso, has not yet been received. ^[12]
