A professional soldier of the Colombian Army was killed during a combat engagement with members of the Frente 57 'Yair Bermúdez' armed group in the rural area of Santa Lucía, Tuluá, Valle del Cauca, on the afternoon of Sunday, August 30. ^[1] The confrontation also left a subofficer wounded; he was initially stabilized at the scene before being evacuated to a medical center in Cali. ^[2] The Third Brigade of the National Army confirmed the death of Jorge Arbey Díaz Arias, stating that the soldier lost his life while carrying out his mission. ^[3] The victim was identified as Jorge Arbey Díaz Arias, who died while troops from the High Mountain Battalion No. 10 were advancing in the sector. ^[4] Jorge Arbey Díaz Arias had eight years of service in the Colombian Armed Forces and was originally from the municipality of Arauca. ^[5] The soldier was killed when troops of the High Mountain Battalion No. 10 were attacked by members of the Front 57 Yaír Bermúdez, a residual organized armed group operating in the Tulúa cordillera. ^[6] The Ministry of National Defense announced the activation of specialized intelligence capabilities to judicialize and capture the material authors of the attack. ^[7]
