A teenage girl was stabbed approximately 14 times with a knife during an attack in the Canaima sector of Usaquén, Bogotá, on the early morning of Saturday, August 30. ^[1] Maria Consuelo Cordoba, a 58-year-old woman from Istmina, Choco, requested euthanasia in Bogota after suffering from acid burns for 26 years. ^[2] Sebastián Forero, the victim's cousin, reported that the victim's father heard the screams, entered the home to assist, and the attacker fled through a window. ^[3] The suspect is identified as a 24-year-old man who allegedly maintained a romantic relationship with the victim. ^[4] Cordoba reports she lacks the money to continue treatments, travels on public transportation to ask for financial assistance, and pays around 500,000 pesos (approximately US$155) monthly for her room in Puente Aranda. ^[5] Cordoba stated that in 2000, her then-husband threw acid on her face during an argument in Bogota, causing severe burns that required her to undergo approximately 87 surgical procedures. ^[6] The survivor currently requires two plastic tubes to breathe and uses a homemade mask to protect her face from the sun and strangers. ^[7]
