A cross-sectional study evaluated fecal samples from 51 reproductive-age, non-menopausal women living in Puerto Rico, including 41 with Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome (PMOS) and 10 healthy controls. ^[1] After adjustment for age, body mass index, and recent antibiotic use, PMOS status was not significantly associated with alpha nor beta diversity of the gut microbiome (p>0.05). ^[2] Gail Abrahams, a corporate communications executive and author, shared her experience of losing her train of thought during presentations and meetings due to perimenopause at an event hosted by Red Stripe in August. ^[3] Host factors such as body mass index and age explained more variation in microbial communities than PMOS status. ^[4] Indicator species analysis identified Phocaeicola_A dorei, Alitiscatomonas aceti, Brotaphodocola, and Schaedlerella as taxa preferentially associated with the healthy control group. ^[5] Abrahams stated that even during difficult days caused by hormonal changes, a woman's professional capabilities and identity are not diminished. ^[6] Gail Abrahams recommends scheduling important meetings and demanding tasks earlier in the day when her energy and concentration are strongest. ^[7] Abrahams encourages women to communicate their symptoms to colleagues and ask for practical support rather than suffering in silence. ^[8]
