Raúl Bolaños-Cacho Cué of the Green Ecologist Party of Mexico (PVEM) was elected president of the Chamber of Deputies with 432 votes, one against, and 10 abstentions. ^[1] The Mexican Congress elected Higinio Martínez Miranda as the new president of the Senate on Monday, replacing Laura Itzel Castillo who is leaving to join the federal government as the secretary of Women. ^[2] All six national political parties accredited compliance with the requirements to conserve their registration following the verification procedure. ^[3] The General Council of Mexico's National Electoral Institute (INE) approved resolutions regarding the triennial verification process for members of national political parties. ^[4] The Mexican Congress elected Higinio Martínez Miranda of the Morena party as President of the Senate of the Republic for the third year of the LXVI Legislature. ^[5] The Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI), which governed Mexico for more than 70 years, lost nearly 600,000 registered members between 2023 and 2026, with its membership falling from 1,411,000 in 2023 to 819,103 in 2026, according to figures from Mexico's National Electoral Institute (INE) electoral rolls. ^[6] Higinio Martínez Miranda pledged to lead the Senate with adherence to the legal framework and respectful, equitable treatment for both the ruling party and the opposition. ^[7] Raúl Bolaños-Cacho Cué will replace Kenia López Rabadán of PAN as president of the Chamber of Deputies. ^[8] Mexico's National Electoral Institute (INE) found 95,317 records with inconsistencies in the PRI's membership registry, including 27,000 registered members who were deceased and 41,371 records duplicated in another political party. ^[9] Morena, the party that grew the most, increased its registry from 2,322,136 members in 2023 to 11,629,541 in 2026, an affiliation campaign led when Andrés Manuel López Beltrán served as secretary general, and surpassing its commitment of more than 10 million affiliates. ^[10] The PRI, led by Alejandro 'Alito' Moreno Cárdenas, had 6.5 million members in 2019 and saw that number fall to 1.5 million by 2020, a 76% reduction. ^[11]
