Residents of rural sectors San Rafael, Curimina, Cafifíes, Arenitas, and Brisas del Pauto in Pore, Casanare, denounced the severe deterioration of road infrastructure including bridge loss and sewer collapses. ^[1] Reyneiro Flechas, the delegated auditor in Casanare, announced that the General Auditor's Office will visit the Villanueva hospital construction project. ^[2] Ernestina Mina, legal representative of the Indigenous Health Service Provider Institution (IPSI) Comunidad Agua Blanca, said that the baby was initially treated by an ancestral doctor, but his health deteriorated and he was transferred to a health center where he later died. ^[3] In indigenous communities in Colombia, 159 pertussis cases have been registered as of late August 2026, nearly double the number recorded by the same date in 2025. ^[4] In May 2026, representatives of the U'wa indigenous community in Santander made public the case of a 16-month-old baby who died after contracting pertussis. ^[5] The majority of the 159 indigenous pertussis cases are concentrated in the Colombian departments of Santander, Antioquia, Casanare and Boyacá. ^[6] Jair Uérfano, president of the vereda Curimina, stated that the Los Cocos bridge on the road connecting Curimina to San Rafael has had problems for several years. ^[7] The deterioration of infrastructure has made it difficult for communities to transport agricultural products and for students to reach their educational institutions. ^[8]
