President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine reported that a Russian drone struck the central headquarters of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) in Kyiv on a Friday. ^[1] A drone attack struck the headquarters of the Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) in Kyiv, wounding at least seven people and causing damage to a nearby restaurant. ^[2] President Volodymyr Zelensky said on social media that Russia would face a proportionate response to the strike. ^[3] Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated on September 5, 2026, that Russia has proposed a temporary ceasefire to coincide with the visit of American envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. ^[4] Local authorities stated that the attack left at least five people injured. ^[5] President Zelensky declared that the drone was specifically targeted at the office of Oleksandr Poklad, the head of the SBU. ^[6] President Zelensky instructed Oleksandr Poklad to provide a tangible response to Russia once preparations were complete. ^[7] President Zelensky ordered Oleksandr Poklad to prepare a tangible and symmetrical response against Russian forces once the necessary preparations are complete. ^[8] Volodymyr Zelensky stated that all individuals affected by the drone strike are currently being attended to by emergency services. ^[9] President Volodymyr Zelensky stated on X that the drone was directly targeted at the office of the head of the security service within the building. ^[10] The acting head of the Security Service of Ukraine, Oleksandr Poklad, was unscathed following the drone attack on his office. ^[11] US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner are expected to travel to Moscow and then Kyiv over the weekend and into early next week. ^[12]
