Property developers are restructuring their businesses to survive a prolonged housing market downturn, with asset sales, cost-cutting, and leaner operations becoming increasingly important as weak demand and financial pressures squeeze liquidity. ^[1] Gas from the Beetaloo Basin, a shale gas resource in Australia's Northern Territory, has begun flowing into the Northern Territory power grid. ^[2] Centric reported a 4.7% decline in revenue to $612 million for the period ended 2026-06-30, down from $642 million in the same period last year, alongside a 3.9% decrease in profit to $363 million. ^[3] Developers are prioritizing cash preservation over growth, with some companies reporting revenue drops of up to 10% and profit declines of up to 8.17% as they navigate the challenging market conditions. ^[4] APA chief executive Adam Watson said the North to East Australia Pipeline was 'critical, nation-building infrastructure' that could be transformational for Australia's energy market. ^[5] APA Group, another Australian infrastructure company, has begun environmental assessment for its proposed North to East Australia Pipeline (NEAP), a 1,500-kilometre line from the Beetaloo Basin, about 500 kilometres south-east of Darwin, to south-west Queensland. ^[6] Jemena managing director David Gillespie said Jemena would submit a pipeline permit application with the Northern Territory government before the end of the year, would not seek public subsidies, and that both its own and APA Group's proposed pipelines could be financially viable. ^[7]
