The Democratic centrist group Third Way is launching a new economic platform as part of its effort to steer the party toward a more coherent vision heading into 2028. ^[1] Earlier this year, Third Way launched a $50 million effort seeking to make sure a combative centrist emerges as the party's 2028 presidential nominee. ^[2] The platform consists of 20 ideas described as ambitious and ruthlessly pragmatic, which include a health care Bill of Rights, government-backed car loans, and forcing AI companies to pay for their own expansion. ^[3] Third Way President Jon Cowan stated in an interview that the group sees this launch as the pivot moment away from the primaries and toward the policy debate in the party. ^[4] Abdul El-Sayed, the Democratic Senate nominee in Michigan, has kept Hasan Piker at arm's length and minimized his relevance as 'a streamer in California' after Piker made controversial remarks about Jewish institutions, Israel, and antisemitism. ^[5] After Francesca Hong lost the Wisconsin Democratic gubernatorial primary in April 2026, leftist Twitch streamer Hasan Piker said he may have played too large of a role in her race and that he should not have been anyone's biggest surrogate. ^[6] Hasan Piker said he has apologized for some past remarks, including a clip about Miley Cyrus, but he stands by his comment about voting for Hamas over Israel and describes his work as 'agitative propaganda' that he says is intended to make people second-guess. ^[7] Third Way, a centrist Democratic think tank, published an op-ed on 2026-03-19 titled 'Democrats Are Too Cozy With Hasan Piker' by Jon Cowan and Lily Cohen, which resurfaced Piker's old controversies. ^[8]
