The National Meteorological Service (SNM) warned that a weak tropical wave would bring increased humidity and scattered showers to Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands starting Friday, September 4, 2026. ^[1] The Coast Guard Southeast District is leading a campaign to inform the public about the risks and consequences of illegal passenger-for-hire charter operations. ^[2] Meteorologists warned that dangerous heat conditions could intensify over the weekend, particularly in coastal zones, urban areas, and low-elevation valleys. ^[3] The SNM advised that while widespread rain is not expected, accumulations of water on roads and in poorly drained areas, minor flooding, and isolated lightning strikes could occur. ^[4] The system is expected to raise precipitable water values to nearly 2 inches, which is sufficient to generate a slightly more humid pattern. ^[5] The campaign covers the states of Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina, as well as the territories of Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. ^[6] The Coast Guard is launching this public awareness initiative specifically ahead of the Labor Day holiday. ^[7]
