Virginia Beach Economic Development announced that Orca AI Defense has established its first US office as a new tenant of the Virginia Beach International Incubator. ^[1] The US Coast Guard established a new Office of Maritime Cybersecurity Policy (CG-MCP) to serve as the central authority for developing and implementing policies governing the cyber safety and security of the Marine Transportation System. ^[2] Orca AI Defense adapts the platform for national security and maritime protection applications using cameras, computer vision, real-time object tracking, and automated alerts. ^[3] Orca AI Defense is the US subsidiary of global maritime technology company Orca AI, which is headquartered in London. ^[4] The technology is designed to support organizations including the US Navy, US Coast Guard, ports, defense contractors, and autonomous and unmanned systems manufacturers. ^[5] In a February 2025 report, the Government Accountability Office called on the Coast Guard to improve the accuracy of cybersecurity incident information, provide easier access to data on cyber deficiencies, align its cyber plans with the national strategy, and address gaps in personnel competencies. ^[6] The new office's responsibilities include developing domestic policy, contributing to international standards, directing a coordinated cybersecurity compliance and enforcement strategy, and engaging with maritime organizations, academia, and national laboratories. ^[7] The Office of Maritime Cybersecurity Policy will be created under the Director of Inspections and Compliance and will serve as the Coast Guard's primary liaison with industry partners and other government agencies on maritime cybersecurity matters. ^[8]
