Colombian President Abelardo de la Espriella ordered an airstrike in the Guaviare region that killed 20 FARC dissidents, described as the most lethal attack of its kind in years. ^[1] A car bomb detonated at the Los Patios police station in Cúcuta, Norte de Santander, Colombia, at approximately 11:15 PM on August 31, 2026. ^[2] The attack resulted in one civilian death and 11 injuries, including two police officers, with damage to police infrastructure and several motorcycles. ^[3] President Abelardo de la Espriella reported on Monday that a bombing ordered by his administration killed 20 guerrillas from the FARC dissident groups in the Colombian Amazon. ^[4] Defense Minister Jorge Mora stated on X that the state will not grant truce to Mordisco and his criminal structures following the airstrike. ^[5] The operation targeted the group led by Iván Mordisco, the most wanted rebel in Colombia, and took place in the early hours of Monday in the Guaviare department. ^[6] President Abelardo De La Espriella announced an extraordinary security council meeting to be held in Cúcuta involving the military and police leadership. ^[7] President Abelardo De La Espriella stated that the state will not leave any region alone where terrorists try to spread fear. ^[8] A military source told AFP that this is the third bombing by the new government and the largest since the administration of Juan Manuel Santos (2010-2018). ^[9] President de la Espriella stated in a video on X that his forces killed 20 narcoterrorists, captured five individuals, and recovered two minors. ^[10]
