The court decided unanimously to arrest Deniz Göktaş separately for 'publicly inciting the public to hatred and hostility' and 'insulting the President,' citing concrete evidence, the prescribed penalties, and flight risk. ^[1] Turkish stand-up comedian Deniz Goktas was detained again after the prosecution appealed a court decision that had ordered his release. ^[2] Deniz Göktaş said in his defense that the expressions he used in his posts and demonstrations were within the scope of political humor and that he had no intent to insult, and that he returned to Turkey voluntarily from abroad despite knowing about the investigation. ^[3] Deniz Göktaş was caught in line with an arrest warrant issued by the Istanbul 28th Heavy Penal Court on 31 August and was connected to a hearing via SEGBIS from the penal institution where he is held for another crime. ^[4] The Istanbul 61st Criminal Court of First Instance issued a release decision for Deniz Göktaş, but the prosecutor's office objected to the release. ^[5] A court respected the prosecution's protest and imposed a detention measure again before Goktas was physically released from the prison. ^[6] Goktas was initially ordered to be released by a court on charges of insulting the president and inciting hatred and enmity among the public. ^[7] Prosecutors filed a new charge against Goktas for praising a crime and a criminal in connection with his jokes. ^[8]
